The Design and Technology Association support and champion design and technology education in schools.
The Design and Technology Association are focused on giving educational institutions the tools, knowledge and information they need to become more effective, more experienced and more efficient at teaching Design and Technology. With our help they had an almost 100% increase in membership in a 12 month period.
Against a backdrop of reduced central funding, the D&T Association were working hard to find new sources of revenue. They were however significantly hampered by technology that relied on an obsolescent membership system, poorly integrated to a locally developed and supported Joomla website.
Alongside the replacement of the membership system and the re-organisation of the internal IT team, Technical Labs were selected to build a new web platform.
We developed a platform comprising of Umbraco CMS, ASP.NET C# MVC, Web API and AngularJS to help deliver the main goals of the project. The web application needed tight integration with their CRM system, processing new membership signups, event bookings and e-commerce purchases of products and resource downloads.
A Sage Pay payment gateway was developed to facilitate receipt of payments made across the site, along with the integration of a paperless Direct Debit system.
The project delivery represented a significant and successful outcome for the Design and Technology Association. Careful prioritisation led to a focus on the features that added most value, allowing benefit to be achieved within short timescales and limited budget.
The new web site was well received by users and staff and alongside the other changes made to the membership products led to a 95% increase in membership from January 2014 to January 2015. Quarterly sales of resources have increased from less than 3,000 in Q4 2013 to an average of over 20,000 since, peaking at circa 33,000 in Q4 2014.View Project
