Building the platform to distribute news, views and jobs from the chemical, biochemical and process engineering sectors
We were introduced to the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) via Agile specialists Indigo Blue, after it was established that a new, updated website was required for their monthly publication The Chemical Engineer.
Their existing Sitecore powered website was lacking support for mobile and tablet users, and there was a desire to enhance the delivery of relevant advertisements, as well as improve member management. The editorial team also loathed working in the slow and cumbersome CMS, and were looking for a better solution.
After many consultations on the best approach and technical strategies, we designed and built a new web based delivery platform for their publication, using ASP.NET C# and Umbraco. Full control was given to their reporters and editors to create rich articles by dragging and dropping components in their CMS, fully replicating features and news stories found within the physical publication. Full consideration was given for their mobile and tablet audience to enhance their experience.
We also built a fully featured advertising system, allowing their web team to easily add adverts from different sources and delivery partners to specific sections of the website.
Supporting the main Umbraco integration were a number of custom databases, allowing the collection of user and article taxonomy for generation of recommended content, alongside a new "Free tier" membership offering, allowing users to sample premium content via a credit based system.
In addition, we partnered with their in-house development team to provide a new membership API, allowing communication between individual websites and applications, and IChemE's centralised CRM. We also developed a centralised SagePay server integrated payment gateway, to facilitate new paid registrations on The Chemical Engineer, and as an easy way to collect payments on future projects.View Project
